ESL Flashcards

By far the most popular resource downloaded. These cards are ideal for teaching vocabulary. If you know what you want click on a link below.

 How to use these cards:

First print two copies of each set of cards and then paste them on a cardboard backing so that students can't see through them.  Cut out the individual cards and then you are ready to play various games. Laminating is also a good idea if you have the resources.

Relative Clause/Job Cards

Each job has two cards in the form of relative clauses that describe the job. Students have to match the two descriptions. The conversation should go something like this:

S2: Do you know somebody who digs for coal?

S2: Do you mean a miner?

S1: Yes, I do.

S2: No, I'm sorry. Go fish.

               or

These cards can be used at two levels. One is simply to introduce the clothes item such as jacket or boots. The other is to introduce the clothes item along with some words that might possibly describe it such as leather jacket or striped suit.

Feelings and Emotions

Flash Cards

There is a lot of good vocabulary work contained in the cards including various synonyms for emotions (angry, furious, mad...).

This game plays like the game fish, but with a catch: First they have to ask if the other student has that emotion and then they ask about the reason. They have to match both reason and emotion to get the point. When asking about emotion, they can choose from any of the possible synonym for the emotion.

S1: Are you sad (upset, depressed)?

S2: Yes, I am. (Or: No, I'm not. Go fish.)

S1: Are you sad because your best friend is moving to another city?

S2: Yes, I am. (Or: No, I'm not. Go fish.)

In order to play this game, you will have to print off two sets of cards and glue them onto poster board and cut them out.

A soccer player heading the ball.

          A goalie making a save.

          A referee calling a penalty.
